John Boccacino • Staff writer • April 7, 2009 Democrat and Chronicle Rochester, New York Question: What type of athlete is drawn to crew? Will Greene: "We seem to get quite a few swimmers, but we get a lot of endurance athletes, those who enjoy running and doing cross country, but there's also a nice mix from every sport: volleyball, basketball, soccer, all the ball sports, but the endurance sports are where we draw the most from. You don't get a lot of individual glory and people need to know they're pushing themselves for the benefit of a larger group. Crew is a non-impact sport that trains your entire body, working your legs, upper and lower body and there's a power, endurance and finesse component. There's not really a typical skill set, but it doesn't hurt to have stamina and endurance. It's a great way to spend time outdoors pursuing a competitive activity while being a part of a team." Greene, of Brighton, is director of the Genesee Rowing Club, Brighton's varsity boys and both the University of Rochester's men's and women's crew teams.

Wary at first, Greene Dives into Crew John Boccacino • Staff writer • March 22, 2009 Democrat and Chronicle Rochester, NY BRIGHTON — Will Greene's humble beginnings in the sport of crew began as a freshman at the University of Rochester in 1985. Back then he knew very little of the sport, other than it involved boats manned with oars and that a few of his uncles had rowed. Yet once he started, Greene found his devotion to the sport grew. By his junior year, Greene was addicted to crew, and soon crew became a focal point in his life.
