Saturday, 08 August 2009

GRC’s Masters Team enjoyed success at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta this past weekend. Racing in 4’s and 8’s the men won 2nd and 3rd place; the women 3rd and 3rd place. See stats sheet for complete results.

The women’s C 4+ rocked first thing that morning as recorded by stroke Lisa Gesinger:

“It began with a faint starting horn, followed by firm commands from our Cox Rachael Gartland. The race was on... Lisa Gesinger, Giva Lopes-Little, Karen Morgan and Moi Dugan put it all out for The Henley in St. Catharine’s, Ontario Canada, Sunday August 2nd to take first place in their heat with a 3:51:63 finish only to come back for the final and beat their time with a 3:45.91 taking a 3rd place finish. First place finish time of 3:41.11 was by the Saratoga Rowing Association.”

Thanks and congratulations to Coach Mike Sealander for an awesome sprint season. Mike has been imperative to GRC's success this summer and an inspiration to both competitive and recreational rowers in achieving their personal best and to work together as one in the boat. GRC looks forward to continued success with you as coach!

GRC reluctantly bids adieu to Coach Doug Short as he heads west to new adventures. Thanks for everything you've done to make GRC happen Doug. You will be missed.

To the GRC coxies: Rachel, Sean, Julia and Audrey. Thank you for pushing us to our limits to make this season our best! Good luck to Sean as he heads to Texas for his new job and to Rachel and Audrey who will be on St. Lawrence University Crew in a couple of weeks. Julia, we will be seeing you in Pittsford!

All will be cheering for team members who will be competing at Nationals in Camden, NJ August 13-16th for the last sprint race of the season.

The GRC team will then be taking a short break before resuming practice for head racing season this fall. Keep posted for regatta schedules.
